Marco Bay

Landscape architect

Bio

Marco Bay, a landscape architect, graduated from Milan Polytechnic with a thesis on Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe's gardens.

He developed professional experience working at the office of architect Nena Balsari.

He founded his own studio in 1997, working on garden and landscape projects in Italy and Europe.

He has developed a personal method according to the idea that every project starts from certain principles, such as architecture, respect for the history and ecosystem of a place, to achieve the balance of an ideal unicum, without forgetting future maintenance and growth.

His work is also evident through rigorous and contemporary designs, giving shapes and spatial qualities that help emphasise the landscape by making it visible, without overpowering the spirit of the place.

Original is his constant search for plants in pursuit of beauty in favour of biodiversity.

The architect's object of study in the relevant scales of intervention are terrace and courtyard, patio and roof garden, park, agricultural estate, harbour or highway. The marks imposed depend on the scale of the site.

He has given lectures and conferences at the Politecnico di Milano, the Scuola Agraria di Monza, the Università Internazionale dell'Arte di Firenze, the Istituto Superiore d'Architettura e Design di Milano, the Università degli Studi Pavia and for the Associazione Italiana Architettura del Paesaggio, Maestri del paesaggio, IUAV Venezia.

As an expert in urban greenery, he was a member of the Building Commission for the Municipality of Milan between 2005 and 2009.
